THAI GREEN PAPAYA SALAD

SOM TAM SALAD / THAI GREEN PAPAYA SALAD
Okay, imagine this in your mouth right now, sweet and sour raw papayas, the tangy taste of tamarind, the spice from chilies, sweet jaggery and crunchy peanuts with a pinch of salt.
Its like an explosion of flavours.
In India many of us have either heard or eaten a Kofta or curry made from raw papayas but very few of us are aware about the popularity of raw papaya salads.
In fact did you know SOM TAM SALAD is among the top 50 exotic dishes in the world.Yeah! You heard that right. "Som" means sour and "tam"means pound in a mortar pestle. Basically You gotta crush the whole thing in a mortar or just chop it all.
So I love eating healthy nutritious salads in my meals and i really wanted to try this famous Thai salad. Coming straight to the point I made this last night for dinner and I absolutely loved it.
I admit I was very unsure that i will like it, obviously because the ingredients were so unique like raw papaya, chilies, fish oil, shrimps? So like always I decided to give it a try but in the Desi way, of course.

Lets talk Ingredients:
Raw/Green papaya
Garlic pods
Green chilies
Palm sugar/ honey / jaggery
Tomatoes
Roasted peanuts
Chopped tomatoes
Lime juice

METHOD:
Peel and cut the raw papayas in julienne style or just grate them.Trick time, now if you want your salad to be crunchy throw these in ice cold water, else they will just be soggy but still tastes great.
now drain the water after 10 minutes and place papayas on a tissue to dry out any access water.

Now chop or pound some green chilies, add 2 garlic pods.
Add honey or jaggery powder, some beans or carrot.
Add half of your roasted peanuts , save half for later.
Now add tamarind or lime juice. Add thr leftover peanuts on top.
Last thing, the papaya and tomatoes.
Spicy, tangy, refreshing, crunchy and sweet. This is definitely an example of what fun food should actually taste like.
Mix it all well and enjoy!!!

(You can also add fish sauce, tamarind juice, dried shrimps, beans, apples and literally anything you like.)
